Hi. My name is Kurt Linneman, your small business consultant. If you know that superstar employees are out there, but you just don't know how to find them and hire them, then I am here to help.

Lucky for you, I used to have the very same problems finding and hiring superstar employees. So I developed an easy-to- follow system that you can now use in your small business that shows you exactly where and how to recruit superstar employees... even in tight labor markets.

It doesn’t matter what kind of recruiting results you've been getting (or not getting) up to now... let me show you how to use my Recruiting Sources Template to hire superstar employees fast… but won’t cost you a lot of money (no expensive staffing agencies, no Monster, no ineffective newspapers that nobody reads anyway).

My Recruiting Sources Template will keep you organized and direct you to the best places to find great employees. It will also steer you away from the waste of time places.

Once you become more organized in your staffing approach, you will be able to hire the superstar employees that willconnect you to increased profits and, ultimately reduce payroll costs for you in your small business (because a superstar employee will do the work of two or three mediocre employees… with a lot less mistakes).

The traditional approach to finding a new employee is to advertise on-line. The problem is that 98% of the superstars out there already have jobs (so they won’t be looking at your ads). They may not be happy at their current jobs, but they are working… and they probably aren’t looking in help wanted ads every day.

So, to hunt down the good guys and gals, you need to be creative and follow a disciplined step-by-step process.

My staffing system focuses on all the free options and discourages shelling out ridiculous amounts of cash for well known websites where you still might not get the superstar employees to give you a call.

There is a wide range of options beyond putting an ad in the paper and hoping for the best.  Take a look below….

Ask For Referrals

Referrals are one of your MOST reliable recruiting sources. Referrals totally bypass all the time, hassle, and expense of traditional recruiting from the “outside world” at large.

The best part about my employee referral system is that it doesn’t bring in many problem employees– your employees, vendors and customers don’t want to be the one responsible for bringing a bad apple into your company.

My employee referral system shows you how to ask for- and get great-referrals.

Be On Constant Look-Out For Superstar Employees

Since most perfect employees are already working, look at the people who are working.  When you are out-and-about talk up your need for great people at the places you visit (church, fitness club, restaurants, grocery stores, the mall)

Hand out business cards when you see someone doing a great job. After you hand them your card, say something like: “You really seem to like to help people. You know, we’re looking right now and if you know of anyone like you, we would love to talk to them.”

Do not directly solicit the person while they are working (at other times it’s OK). Always use the phrase “If you know someone like you.”

Organize Your Advertising…

Get organized. Start by downloading my Recruiting Sources Template (found at the end of this page).

The Recruiting Sources Template is a sample grid of what your recruiting sources might look like.  Depending on your location, some of these will be relevant to you (www.monster.com) and for some others, you’ll need to substitute your own local resources.

Use Free Help-Wanted Advertising First

Before you even think about paid help-wanted advertising or employment agencies, exhaust you free possibilities first. Work through this entire “free” section before you go to the paid section.

  • Put a sign in your window.  Sounds simple, but is sometimes overlooked. Don’t sound desperate (you don’t need customers knowing that you’re hard-up and short-staffed).  Simply put up a brief sign that says something like “We’re always looking for superstar talent.  If you know someone really good, have them apply through our website.”
  • Your Newsletter (if you have one).  Your customers are already familiar with your business and if they love your service, chances are they’ll recommend you as a great employer also!  Once again, don’t advertise here for a specific job ad, but something more general like“We’re always looking for superstar talent, if you know one, have them visit our website!”
  • Vo-Tech Schools are a great source for finding young talent.  Call and introduce  yourself to the recruiting person or guidance counselor.  Go in for a visit and bring ads to post in case they have a job board.
  • Local Colleges are another great source of free advertising. Google your area for colleges and universities, get their website and phone number, and email them your ad.  If you have time, visit each one to see how their physical billboard system works, meet the advisor and make sure you are getting the best positioning. Make sure to stay in touch with the advisors.
  • Public Libraries and Township Buildings sometimes also have public posting forums. It depends on your town, so it would be worth a phone call first.  If they have a board that accepts public bulletins…get out their and post!

Paid For-- But Cheap-- Help Wanted Advertising: (If You Can’t Get It For Free, You’re Gonna Have To Pay For It)

  • Craigs List. We have had consistent success using www.craigslist.org. (for more specific examples see the recruiting grid at the end of this chapter). Upon placing an ad, always check on the placement. Craigslist is a great place to test copy for free. TEST and TRACK your results. Put in lots of key words so when people search, they will pull up your ad. Keep all free advertising current – ALWAYS!

I want to help you attract superstar employees and experience  the kind of workplace you’ve always dreamed about, but you have not yet been able to find. (You may find this hard to believe right now but employee discipline and termination will become a thing of the past).

I’m so excited about my small business staffing system that I don’t want to talk anymore… I just want you to see for yourself the benefits of what my “Have Perfect People” staffing system can do for you.

That is why I am providing you with a free sample “Recruiting Sources Template” tool that I use in my small business staffing system. This way, you can see what the “Recruiting Sources Template” looks like… (yours will look a little different… but don’t worry, I’ll customize your recruiting template specifically for your small business if you want me to).

And folks, this is just one of my small business tools (I have so much more to help you get superstar employees into your small business).

Just fill out the form below to see what a “Recruiting Sources Template” might look like for your small business.
